Mission Statement
and Educational Approach
The mission of Legacy Academy is to help guide students in the development
of their character and academic potential through an academically
rigorous, content-rich educational environment.
Our mission is accomplished through a strong partnership with parents to
create an environment which addresses the following four cornerstones –
character, academic standards, life skills, and educational environment.
See Section I of the student handbook for descriptions of the four
cornerstones, information on the Core Knowledge curriculum, and Legacy’s
curriculum goals.
Legacy Academy has adopted Core Virtues by Mary Beth Klee as its
primary character education program. It is literature based using the
Core Knowledge curriculum. Its key elements include:
-
A sequence for teaching consensus virtues on a three year cycle
-
Grade specific goals for Kindergarten to 6th grade with
supplements for middle school
-
Connections that can be made with the Core Knowledge sequence
-
Definitions of the virtues keyed to individual grade levels
-
A critical Resource Guide to literature organized by virtue
Discipline and order of a high standard will be maintained. Students are
expected to obey and respect authority, accept responsibility, respect the
rights of others, take care of their own property, and be careful with the
property of others. No student will be allowed to disrupt the education
of other students. See section VIII, Code of Conduct, in the student
handbook.
Employment-At-Will
Employment is with the mutual consent of the employee and Legacy Academy
. Consequently, both the employee and Legacy Academy have the right to
terminate the employment agreement at any time, with or without cause or
advance notice. However, out of professional courtesy and in the best
interest of the students, both parties are expected to give a 30 day
written notice of termination, whenever possible, to allow for a smooth
transition in the classroom.
This employment-at-will relationship remains in effect throughout the
term of employment with Legacy Academy unless it is specifically modified
by an express written agreement signed by the employee, the President of
the Board of Directors, and the Principal of Legacy Academy. This
employment-at-will relationship may not be modified by an oral or implied
agreement.
